About Cage and Miles, LLP

Steven K. Brumer practices bankruptcy, family law, and trusts and estates at Cage and Miles. Prior to joining the firm, he worked in private practice, held a real estate broker?s license, served as general counsel to several real estate and mortgage companies, and operated his own bankruptcy and estate law practice in downtown San Diego. Brumer is one of a handful of attorneys with a specialized post-graduate Master of Law degree (LL.M.) in taxation. This course of study focuses on tax planning, analysis, and litigation and has proven invaluable in his counsel to clients. Brumer?s specialty is representing clients in matters that crossover among his areas of expertise and he serves as a resource to the other attorneys in the firm when issues relating to bankruptcy and trusts and estates arise. He is a persuasive and meticulous writer and oral advocate. A native of New York City, Steven Brumer earned his undergraduate degree in psychology (with a minor in political science) from Brooklyn College. After graduation, he relocated to Florida to attend the University of Miami School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate and served as a legal intern for the Miami-Dade County Public Defender?s Office, where he got his first taste of courtroom work. After graduation and being admitted to the Florida bar, he began his legal career with a downtown Miami litigation firm. Upon relocating to San Diego, Steven?s interest in wealth transfer taxation led him to earn his Master of Laws degree from the University of San Diego. Steven?s legal experience has included advice and representation in matters including and relating to civil litigation, family law, insurance defense, estate and trust planning and administration, conservatorship, guardianship, planning for incapacity, bankruptcy, debtor and creditor rights, employment law, contract disputes, real estate, and alternative dispute resolution. In 2001, Steven earned his LL.M. degree in taxation and obtained his license to practice in California. Steven is also admitted to practice before various federal courts in California and Florida, as well as the United States Tax Court. Steven is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association?s bankruptcy and family law sections and the San Diego Family Law Bar Association. He is an endurance road cyclist, mountain biker, and indoor cycling enthusiast. He can be found on most weekends riding around San Diego with the Challenged Athletes Foundation Cycling Club, an organization that provides opportunities and support for athletes with physical challenges. Steven also enjoys motorcycling, snowboarding, and hiking the many trails in and around San Diego County with his family. He resides in San Diego with his wife (a pediatric nurse), their children, and the family?s two rescued dogs: a Weimaraner and a Labrador/Coonhound mix.
