About Juris Law & Mediation

A partner at Juris, MaKenzi D. Higgins has a varied practice that encompasses family law, small business transactional law, simple estate planning and administration, and real estate matters. Located in the firm?s offices in Olathe, Kansas, she represents clients throughout the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Ms. Higgins was admitted to practice before the federal and state courts of both Kansas and Missouri in 2016.

Prior to college, Ms. Higgins worked as a talent agent in California and then formed her own talent management company, which continues to represent people in the television and motion picture busines that you would recognize. She subsequently enrolled at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and in 2013, she received dual bachelor?s degrees in art history and studio art. Ms. Higgins then remained on campus to pursue her legal education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, and while there, she provided pro bono legal services to domestic violence victims before awarded her Juris Doctor with honors in 2015. MaKenzi subsequently earned her Masters of Business Administration from the UMKC Henry Bloch School of Business in 2020, which helps her continue her passion of helping families small business owners with their transactional needs including the overlap into family law.

The portion of Ms. Higgins' family law practice is largely centered around divorce and the related legal issues of spousal and child support, parenting time, domestic litigation, and property division. She has also prepared and reviewed prenuptial and post-marital agreements, and she has successfully represented grandparents who are seeking visitation rights to their grandchildren. In her estate planning and administration practice, Ms. Higgins works with her clients to prepare wills, trusts, financial and health care powers of attorney, and advance medical directives, and she guides heirs and beneficiaries through what can often be a confusing and lengthy process of probate. Her business and real estate experience has encompassed transactions and disputes, and she also offers general advice and counsel to businesses and their owners. Additionally, Ms. Higgins is one of the few attorneys in the Kansas City area who understand and specializes in redemption rights and works with many clients who buy and rehabilitate properties for sale, affectionately known as " house flippers."
