About David K. Spencer

David Spencer founded his own practice in New York after many years of working at top-tier firms and financial institutions. He devotes his practice to tax, estates & trusts, business and commercial law. He represents businesses, individuals, families and other types of clients in the New York metropolitan area, across the country and around the world, working with matters involving tax strategy, planning and return preparation, audits & appeals, Tax Court practice and appearance as an expert witness in matters of taxation, contracts, probate, real estate, trusts, wills and more.

Along with his law practice, Mr. Spencer also serves as an adjunct professor in New York University School of Law's Graduate Tax Program, where he created a course devoted to tax and accounting issues. In 2003, he authored an article on tax shelter disclosure language which appeared in the journal Tax Notes.

After earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Oberlin College, Mr. Spencer earned his law degree and a Master of Laws degree from New York University School of Law. Before founding The Law Offices of David K. Spencer, P.C., he spent many years working in the banking industry and was an associate in the tax department of a large white-shoe law firm. As part of the Tax Policy Fellowship received from NYU, Mr. Spencer interned at the Office of Tax Policy, helping to craft federal tax policy for the executive branch.

Committed to community service, Mr. Spencer has fought on behalf of Haymakers for Hope, a boxing organization dedicated to cancer research in order to raise awareness and funds for the organization. He has also served as a "skilled volunteer" for Habitat for Humanity New York City.
