About Beatrice K. Sowald

Founding member of Sowald Sowald Anderson Hawley & Johnson, Beatrice K. Sowald represents clients in central Ohio. Her focus is on estate planning and family law, and she is certified in Family Law by the Ohio State Bar Association. A former Judge for Municipal Court and Family Relations Court in Franklin County, she also taught family law courses at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Ms. Sowald is admitted to practice in the state of Ohio and before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Federal Court. She attended The Ohio State University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts before the decided to attend law school. At The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, she graduated in 1966 with her Juris Doctor and has spent over five decades representing clients and leading professional activities.

Former chair of the Family Law Committee for both the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association, she also served as chair for the Professional Ethics Committee in both organizations. Every year since 1987, she has been the co-editor for the resource book Ohio Domestic Relations.

In the beginning of her career, she served with the Franklin County Legal Aid and Public Defender Society as an attorney. The Columbus Bar Association gave her the Professionalism Award in 1993 for her humanitarian concern and integrity. The Ohio State Bar Association also gave her the Ohio Bar Medal, and she was twice selected for inclusion to the list of Top 50 Women Ohio Super Lawyers.
