About Heather B. Poster

Heather B. Poster is a shareholder of Becker, Hickey & Poster, S.C., located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Assisting clients throughout the greater metropolitan area, her practice includes estate planning, probate administration and elder law. Ms. Poster also has family law experience, and she is admitted to practice before all Wisconsin state courts.

Ms. Poster's elder law practice includes Medicaid and long-term care planning, the preparation of special needs trusts, asset protection and guardianships. As an estate planner, she prepares and reviews wills, irrevocable life insurance trusts, powers of attorney, living wills, advanced health care directives and long term care insurance contracts. Her family law matters include divorcesÿwith special emphasis on those cases involving a spouse who is disabled and receiving or applying for public benefits.ÿÿ

As an undergraduate, Ms. Poster attended the University of Wisconsin on a scholarship, where she majored in behavioral science and earned a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in 1999. She then went on to attend Marquette University Law School and was awarded her Juris Doctor cum laude in 2002.

Ms. Poster has written several articles on medicaid planning, capacity and special needs trusts for the Elder Law Journal of Wisconsin and other publications. She has led or participated in numerous seminars on topics related to her practice area before groups of fellow professionals, including the Milwaukee Bar Association and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is currently an advisor to the State Bar of Wisconsin's Elder and Special Needs Law Section Board (Chair 2017-2018) and serves on the boards for the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (Chair 2020) and WisPACT, Inc. Ms. Poster has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of elder law.
